Fertility Success – Measurable Using Online Software?

Monday, January 10th, 2011

Want to know what your chances of fertility success IVF are going to be?  Though it might seem counterintuitive, your computer could hold the answers… or so say programmers who’ve created what they consider to be an accurate way to measure whether or not your body is in a position to conceive sooner rather than later.

It’s a significant claim to make – the notion that answering a few questions could possibly make a prediction that even fertility specialists with decades of experience under their belts cannot promise.  Yet it’s also unlikely to hurt any couple as long as they use the computer program with a healthy dose of the reality of the situation.

While a woman’s response to IVF can definitely be monitored and tracked, there’s no “magic bullet” that can pinpoint the time when she’s absolutely, positively going to become pregnant.  However, this software boasts a 99% accuracy rating.

The online IVF predictor calculator was developed in the United Kingdom.  As we learn more about it, we’ll provide you with information regarding the software and how it works.  Until that time, we suggest you consider it as yet another tool to use in your reproductive journey.

The Donor Egg “Raffle” That’s Shocked the International Scene

Monday, March 15th, 2010

In a move that has shocked many people around the world, United Kingdom based fertility specialists are raffling off a human egg as part of a “first prize”.

To be completely fair, there isn’t exactly one particular ”egg” that’s being raffled off.  Instead, the winning female will be able to select a donor egg type based on her desires (e.g., the donor’s profession, appearance, ethnicity) and, in the bargain, receive a free round of IVF.

Still, it’s raising eyebrows and causing many discussions about the ethics (but not the legality, since it is legal due to the way the promotion has been handled) behind the “egg raffle”.

We’d like to hear your opinion on the matter:

  • Do you believe this is outrageous or simply a unique way of getting more couples to consider IVF as an option to have a child?

  • How Old is Too Old?

    Saturday, January 16th, 2010

Recently a woman in the United Kingdom who is 59 years old (some sources say 60 years old) went through IVF to conceive a child.  The egg (from a donor, as she’s post-menopausal) was fertilized using her partner’s sperm.

As you might imagine, her story has created quite a stir internationally.  Some people feel she’s too old to give birth, while others feel it’s a personal decision and age shouldn’t matter if you’re healthy and financially stable.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on this subject.

In your opinion, how old is too old to undergo fertility treatments?

  • Grandparents and Infertility

    Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

If you were or are the parent of a couple having trouble conceiving, would you pay for their fertility treatments?

In some parts of the UK, this seems to be an increasingly-popular practice as grandparents-to-be provide the financial means for their sons and daughters to reproduce via fertility measures.

According to this article, a whopping one in eight couples undergoing IVF treatment in the United Kingdom have their bills subsidized by would-be grandmothers and grandfathers.

What do you think?  If you’re dealing with infertility now, would you allow your parents or your spouse’s parents to pay for your fertility procedures?  Or would you prefer that they had no financial hand in the process?
