Hollywood News – Rancics Having Another Go at Fertility Treatment

Wednesday, September 21st, 2011

Giuliana and Bill Rancic haven’t been shy about seeking fertility treatments. In fact, after two rounds of IVF, they declared not quite a year ago that they would wait to attempt a third. However, it seems that they made the choice to try sooner than they thought.

The couple has now announced that they’ll be going to their fertility specialist for another IVF fertility treatment in the coming weeks. As they’ve noted to the press, the impetus for their decision was a statement by their physician that Giuliana was in a good position egg-wise for another attempt.

Though we don’t always talk about Hollywood duos who are undergoing fertility treatments, we have kept up with the Rancics. As a team, they are a positive force for getting a true picture out about what it’s like to go through the process of working with trained reproductive specialists to attempt to conceive.

The Rancics also seem to be excellent at putting the experience in perspective and focusing on the end goal – having a child. In fact, despite Giuliana’s good-natured grumbling, she’s incredibly optimistic. She’s even noted that if she had twins, she’d still go for more fertility treatments if it were a possibility, just to have additional babies.

In the end, the Rancics seem to have chosen a fertility specialist they trust, which is probably one of the reasons they have remained so upbeat. If you’re interested in finding out about whether or not fertility treatments are right for you, contact the Reproductive Science Institute with locations in Chesterbrook and Wyomissing PA to set up a consultation.

Celebrities and Assisted Reproductive Techniques

Monday, December 27th, 2010

Celine Dion.  Giuliana Rancic.  Neil Patrick Harris.  They’ve made headlines the past year as they’ve openly discussed their experiences with assisted reproductive techniques (ART).

In Dion’s case, her fertility treatments may have been long and uncomfortable, but she recently gave birth to twins and is reported to be happier than ever.

For Rancic, fertility treatments haven’t provided her with a child yet, but she and her husband are hopeful that they can still conceive.

Harris and his male partner opted for surrogacy to fulfill their dreams of becoming dads.

Thanks to the openness shared by celebrities like Dion, Rancic and Harris (through their publicity managers, of course), men and women have a better understanding of what IVF, IUI, egg donation and surrogacy are all about.

Though no one who hasn’t been through the experience of infertility can truly appreciate the challenge of the journey, having Hollywood’s elite tell their stories does provide a much-needed opening for discussions about ART.

Our question to you is this:

Does reading about stars’ difficulties with their fertility help you in any way?

Neil Patrick Harris Joins List of Stars Who Chose Surrogacy to Become Parents

Friday, August 20th, 2010

Neil Patrick Harris, star of the 1990′s “Doogie Houser, M.D.”, will soon be bouncing twins on his knee.

Harris (who officially identified himself as a homosexual several years ago) and his partner, David Burtka, chose to use a surrogate over adopting a child.  The surrogate’s identity has not been revealed (which is typical during the surrogacy process), but Harris has confirmed that the twins are due this autumn.

We wish Harris and Burtka much joy as their family doubles!

If you’re interested in learning more about surrogacy as an option OR if you wish to become a surrogate to a family struggling with fertility issues, contact the fertility specialists at RSI.

  • IVF Treatment and the “Lucky 13″ Couple

    Friday, June 11th, 2010

There’s a huge buzz going on right now about the couple from Britain who underwent fertility treatments (specifically IVF) 13 times over 7 years in order to get pregnant with their twins.  (The girls are very healthy at two month old.)

While we’re thrilled that the man and woman had a positive outcome, we do feel that it’s important for readers to understand that this represents an unusual story in the world of fertility treatments for a number of reasons:

    1.  Most couples don’t continue to do IVF this many times.  Nor should couples intending to consider IVF worry that they’ll have to go through round after round.  Usually, if IVF doesn’t work a few times, patients will choose other routes.

    2.  Not all fertility treatments are extremely costly.  The article highlights how much the couple spent over time, but their experience is an individual one.

    3.  Going abroad for fertility treatments is a last resort.  Perhaps in western Europe it’s more common to head to other parts of Europe to undergo IVF, but Americans are usually cautioned against going this drastic route, especially when there are exceptional fertility specialists around the states.

Again, we’re very happy for this couple and glad they feel so overjoyed at reaching their dream of becoming parents.  For them, 13 indeed has been tremendously lucky!

  • Did Mariah Carey Conceive Via Fertility Treatments?

    Friday, June 4th, 2010

Pop superstar Mariah Carey, 42, recently announced that she was pregnant… with twins.

This revelation has led many to speculate that she must have used fertility treatments to achieve these results.  However, we would caution against making this assumption until and unless it’s been verified by the couple.

Contrary to popular belief, multiples do happen naturally, even to women in their 40s!  And while some fertility treatments do indeed increase the change of twins, triplets (or more children), not all have the same high rates.

We wish Mariah much luck as her family grows, regardless of whether she conceived via a fertility treatment or not!

  • IVF Treatment Helps Celine Dion Conceive Again!

    Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

It’s official — IVF treatment has helped Celine Dion conceive again… and this time she’s gotten a very special surprise!

When Dion announced that her latest round of IVF treatment had, indeed, worked, she included a bit of a shocker:  She’s not having one child.  She’s having TWO!

So it’s twins for Celine Dion and her husband.  The twins will join their younger sibling later this year.

We at RSI are always pleased to hear about successful IVF treatments.  We wish Celine and her family the best.

  • Marcia Cross – Donor Egg Recipient

    Saturday, March 20th, 2010

Recent news outlets have picked up what many people didn’t realize — Marcia Cross, starlet of Desperate Housewives, did not conceive her twins in 2007 via IVF.  Instead, she chose to treat her fertility issues by using an egg donor.

Cross, like many post-40 women, did not have enough (if any) viable eggs of her own to even consider IVF.  Thus, she and her husband, stockbroker Tom Mahoney, turned to egg donation.

Stories like this emphasize just how many different choices there are for couples of all ages who struggle with infertility.  If you’re interested in learning more about choosing (or becoming) an egg donor, visit our site today.

  • Surrogacy Isn’t Only for the Stars

    Friday, June 26th, 2009

The news was announced earlier this week — Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick’s surrogate gave birth to the couple’s twins.  It brought surrogacy in the news, but what many people don’t realize is that having a surrogate give birth to their children isn’t just for Hollywood’s elite.

In fact, surrogacy can be an effective solution for couples struggling with infertility problems.  In some cases, it greatly minimizes the stress of continuing with fertility treatments that might not be working.  Consequently, surrogacy shouldn’t be ignored; it’s been and continues to be a viable way to have a baby for numerous men and women.

Our congratulations to SJP and MB!
