Hollywood News – Rancics Having Another Go at Fertility Treatment

Wednesday, September 21st, 2011

Giuliana and Bill Rancic haven’t been shy about seeking fertility treatments. In fact, after two rounds of IVF, they declared not quite a year ago that they would wait to attempt a third. However, it seems that they made the choice to try sooner than they thought.

The couple has now announced that they’ll be going to their fertility specialist for another IVF fertility treatment in the coming weeks. As they’ve noted to the press, the impetus for their decision was a statement by their physician that Giuliana was in a good position egg-wise for another attempt.

Though we don’t always talk about Hollywood duos who are undergoing fertility treatments, we have kept up with the Rancics. As a team, they are a positive force for getting a true picture out about what it’s like to go through the process of working with trained reproductive specialists to attempt to conceive.

The Rancics also seem to be excellent at putting the experience in perspective and focusing on the end goal – having a child. In fact, despite Giuliana’s good-natured grumbling, she’s incredibly optimistic. She’s even noted that if she had twins, she’d still go for more fertility treatments if it were a possibility, just to have additional babies.

In the end, the Rancics seem to have chosen a fertility specialist they trust, which is probably one of the reasons they have remained so upbeat. If you’re interested in finding out about whether or not fertility treatments are right for you, contact the Reproductive Science Institute with locations in Chesterbrook and Wyomissing PA to set up a consultation.

Celebrities and Assisted Reproductive Techniques

Monday, December 27th, 2010

Celine Dion.  Giuliana Rancic.  Neil Patrick Harris.  They’ve made headlines the past year as they’ve openly discussed their experiences with assisted reproductive techniques (ART).

In Dion’s case, her fertility treatments may have been long and uncomfortable, but she recently gave birth to twins and is reported to be happier than ever.

For Rancic, fertility treatments haven’t provided her with a child yet, but she and her husband are hopeful that they can still conceive.

Harris and his male partner opted for surrogacy to fulfill their dreams of becoming dads.

Thanks to the openness shared by celebrities like Dion, Rancic and Harris (through their publicity managers, of course), men and women have a better understanding of what IVF, IUI, egg donation and surrogacy are all about.

Though no one who hasn’t been through the experience of infertility can truly appreciate the challenge of the journey, having Hollywood’s elite tell their stories does provide a much-needed opening for discussions about ART.

Our question to you is this:

Does reading about stars’ difficulties with their fertility help you in any way?

Congratulations to Vern Yip and Partner!

Thursday, November 11th, 2010

If you’ve ever watched Trading Spaces, the phenomenal program that aired on TLC several years ago, you were no doubt mesmerized by the abilities of Vern Yip.  And now he’s about to become a daddy… for the second time!

Yip and his partner worked with a surrogate to allow them to become parents again.  And (through their media reps) it appears that they couldn’t be happier!

Of course, you don’t have to be a Hollywood star or a household name to consider surrogacy; in fact, it’s becoming more and more acceptable in America as the facts (rather than myths) of fertility issues begin to filter into the mainstream.

If you’re considering surrogacy or would just like to know more about the process, feel free to visit RSI at our Philadelphia area office.  We’ll be happy to give you a consultation and help you determine if working with a surrogate is the best solution for you (and/or your partner.)

And, as we always say when we mention a “happy ending” for any person… we wish Yip and his family all the joys that parenthood can bring!

Katie Price to Undergo Fertility Treatments

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

As we’ve discussed with other celebs, many are choosing to go public with their infertility journeys.  And Katie Price is no exception.

Price is a British model/actress/singer and although she might not be as well-known to people in the U.S. as she is in the U.K., she’s gaining popularity… not to mention headlines.

Unlike the “typical” Hollywood IVF story, Price is still young — in her early thirties.  As more information comes forward, it will be interesting to hear which fertility treatments she chooses.

  • Giuliana Rancic Latest Celeb to Undergo IVF

    Monday, March 1st, 2010

Celebrities are beginning to talk more openly about their IVF experiences.  Included in the ranks of Hollywood stars opting for this method of fertility treatment is Giuliana Rancic, celebrity news personality and host of E! News.

Last week, Rancic told the hosts on The View:

“We’ve [already] done IUI; we’ve done quite a few things and we start IVF next week.”

Because Rancic is making her story public so early, it’s likely she’ll be open about telling how her IVF journey goes.  We look forward to hearing more from this celeb and wish her the best of luck!

  • Infertility and “The Morgans”

    Monday, December 21st, 2009

Reviews are in for “Did You Hear about The Morgans?”  In general, they’re not pretty, but the evaluations of movie critics are beyond the scope of this article.

The real problem with the script may be that, once again, infertility is thrown into the mix as a catalyst for “marriage problems”.  Hollywood’s view of infertility seems to be as a writing device; consequently, it’s rarely treated with any kind of genuine regard but rather glossed over.

In reality, though, infertility is so much more complex.  It’s also highly personal, generating more discussions than simply film-style “We can’t have a baby” ones.

It would be nice to see a mainstream movie appear that honestly deals with the layers of infertility instead of using it as some kind of technique to explain away marital difficulties.

  • Surrogacy Isn’t Only for the Stars

    Friday, June 26th, 2009

The news was announced earlier this week — Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick’s surrogate gave birth to the couple’s twins.  It brought surrogacy in the news, but what many people don’t realize is that having a surrogate give birth to their children isn’t just for Hollywood’s elite.

In fact, surrogacy can be an effective solution for couples struggling with infertility problems.  In some cases, it greatly minimizes the stress of continuing with fertility treatments that might not be working.  Consequently, surrogacy shouldn’t be ignored; it’s been and continues to be a viable way to have a baby for numerous men and women.

Our congratulations to SJP and MB!

    Fertility Issues after Giving Birth

    Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

tn_img_6027A recent article from the UK’s Birmingham Post did an excellent job of explaining why women who have been able to conceive naturally without fertility treatments may one day find themselves dealing with infertility.

In the story, the author discusses the experiences of Sarah Jessica Parker, the Hollywood star who recently  discovered that she was no longer able to become pregnant even though she had conceived without problems previously.

The phenomenon, “secondary infertility,” can happen for a number of reasons including the age of the woman, a switch in partners and potential medical problems.  Regardless of the “whys”, it can still be a devastating experience for any couple who assumed they would be able to naturally conceive.

The upshot, though, is that there are alternatives for women who want to have children, including fertility treatments.  Although becoming pregnant may take a bit longer than expected, in many cases, it can still be a reality.
