Pop Star Kylie Minogue Considering Egg Donor to Have Baby

Monday, December 13th, 2010

Kylie Minogue, the pop singer from “Down Under” who stole America’s collective heart in the late 1980s is now 42 and may soon be the latest star to try fertility treatments.

Minogue has announced she’s seriously considering working with an egg donor so she can conceive.  She’s concerned that chemotherapy and radiation as a result of treating breast cancer in 2005 has most likely left her unable to have a baby naturally.

Minogue’s age could also play a factor.  Studies have shown that women over 40 have a decreased likelihood of being able to get pregnant.  Thus, fertility treatments could provide an effective solution.

Though Minogue hasn’t made an official decision, we’ll definitely keep you posted!

Sweden Launches Chlamydia Monday in Effort to Raise Awareness

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

As we’ve written about before at our blog, chlamydia can be one of the contributors to infertility or fertility issues.  A very common STD with nasty long-term side effects, chlamydia is difficult to pinpoint unless men or women get tested.

This is why the Swedish have announced “Chlamydia Mondays”, a new PR program that’s a bit “out there” (it features outlandish cartoons to get the point across) but which the government hopes will resonate with the 4-per-hour-adults who are contracting chlamydia in the country.

So how do you know if you have chlamydia?  Many people have no clue they’re carrying the disease, as it masks itself well.  So if you’ve been having trouble getting pregnant and your physician has ruled out other possibilities but hasn’t tested you or your partner for chlamydia, it’s worth a look.

If nothing else, you’ll know if you are putting your partner at risk and you’ll also be able to get healthier.

  • New IVF Update from Celine Dion

    Friday, July 9th, 2010

As we’ve blogged about before, Celine Dion recently announced that she was pregnant with twins after undergoing six rounds of IVF treatment.

A few days ago, 19-weeks pregnant Dion announced the gender of her twins, and it’s baby blue all the way!  Two boys will be joining the family (mom, dad and 9-year-old big brother who was also conceived after fertility treatments) at the end of the year.

Reportedly, Dion is thrilled with the outcome of her IVF journey, which she has admitted in the past hasn’t been simple.

A Little Bit of Info about IVF…

IVFstands for in vitro fertilization, a medical process whereby a human egg (ova) is fertilized by a human sperm outside the womb.  The fertilized egg is then transferred to the womb of the mother (or, in cases where a woman cannot carry a child to term because of complications, an approved surrogate.)

The rate of success during IVF varies widely depending on a number of factors, including the age of the mother, the ability of the reproductive health specialist, the health of the parents, etc.   However, thanks to medical improvements, live birth rates continue to increase around the world.
